A Return to Atmosphere: Moonlit Grove

While it is hard to say that Guild Wars lacks atmosphere, it sure has some pretty limiting factors holding it back. The most obvious is the static instanced environments. The game also lacks a dynamic weather and a day and night cycle. These alone prevent the game from feeling really “alive”.
With Guild Wars 2 comes many improvements that allow for a really atmospheric game. The most obvious is the change from a mostly instanced game to an open world. This allows for a much more seamless world that naturally appears more lively as you are able to see other players running around and doing quests. It will also get rid of a potentially awkward situation when you and someone you know exist in the same instance but never see each other. Welcome to the first part of what I hope will be a continued series. The State of PvP will analyze various aspects of PvP by looking at where it has come, studying why it is where it is, and how it can be improved in the future. Without further ado, I would like to present the very first article in this series, The State of PvP: Is GvG Dead? Before anyone jumps to any conclusions with this title, I would like to point out that I went into writing this article with one thought and finished with a slightly different opinion.

Even when the Guild Wars community is torn between PvP players and PvE players, TGH is here to bridge the gap. Can PvP players possibly enjoy PvE? Can PvE players practice PvP mechanics in PvE? GvE’s got it covered…maybe.

Looking Forward: The Future of Guild Wars

The original Guild Wars was released over four years ago. Although there has been plenty of new content and additions since then, the announcement that Guild Wars 2 is in the works has left many players anxious in anticipation. While most of info on Guild Wars 2 has been general and vague, there’s plenty of hints about what this new game will bring. But will it recapture the original audience?
