Once Upon A Time...

Long-time member and veteran Guild Wars player Helsvon takes a look back on his time at TGH while embracing a new future for the Home of Guild Wars PvP.

When I first found The Guild-Hall.net, it was the Guild Wars Mecca of its time. I had simultaneously registered on Guild Wars Guru and a couple other fansites, but none had the fervor and the value of conversation the way TGH did. At first, I was just another Joe Schmo, not contributing much. I started getting recognition for making forum signatures, despite them being awful works of photoshop in hindsight. But one day, I realized that I’d become a Senior Member (which I didn’t understand the meaning of at the time) and also the resident “Expert Signature Maker.”

Despite being titles of little importance in reality, those “promotions” allowed me to feel empowered to be at TGH, and I really started committing to knowing the people there. ActionJack and his much-loved GWChibis, heated discussions about the use of Spirit spamming, the neverending complaints (to this day) of IWAY, Gaile’s departure from Community Manager. Those are just a few of the things I can recall from my time here. And each one holds something special for me.

Being relatively new to the staff and underbelly of TGH, I cannot speak for every long-time participant that has helped build this site to what it is. But beyond the coding and design of a site, what really counts are the people that submit to it. The dedication and love of people coming day in and day out are the real blood flow of this website. Without the constant visits of old members to the registration of new ones, you can’t have a site like TGH stay alive. And having been a long-time member of that massive audience, I urge everyone of you to enjoy each other’s company.

I have always put my “real life” first before anything, especially since I’ve grown from my 15-year-old self. But as time has passed and I’ve come to realizations, one of the more important epiphanies was the importance of the people I spend my time with. And though everyone on TGH is just another avatar and another set of words written on a forum, I’ve come to devote my time and my life here. Though nothing could ever compare to the touch of a loved one or words whispered in your ear, something about TGH has kept me here. It is thanks to all of you that someone like me can enjoy signing on to see every witty comment, every near-death experience, and every “pimp” emoticon that ~elk leaves behind.

So to put it concisely: Enjoy what’s here. Without you, it wouldn’t be here. Without you, there would be nobody to do this for. Without you, this place cannot thrive. So come join us and make it something more than just another forum.
