Yes, apparently it does happen. I ran the Guild Wars client (surprise, part of my daily ritual) All was fine.. I fiddled through some options, moved the graphics slider around, added some antialiasing, and BAM! surprise.. huge graphic glitches all over my screen, I'm not talking about little dots.. this is what I'm talking about:

I was like.. hmm.. thats' just the game, if I close it, I should have a problem, I took a screenshot, alt tabbed to paste the picture and:

Note: Look at the desktop, thats' pretty much what pattern was all over my screen.

Then I actually closed Guild Wars.. my desktop looked like the desktop in the 2nd picture.. I had to reboot.. It looked absolutely terrible...

Okay, start up your client, and see if it does it to you ;)

Who needs an alpha tester :(

Boxing out your email address in one pic but not the other is tech. *grins*

Not that we can do much with that info. Oooh, a hotmail address!

That's...weird. System specs? Though if it isn't reproducable I don't know how much it'd matter. Windows does some kinky **** sometimes.

Peace,

I'm sure it's because you were running Maphack in the background (screenshot 2). No third party programs even if they are for a completly different game. :P

Sorry, I just couldn't resist. That is really strange. I hope it's just a fluke. I just ran the client and all was well (with my minimum spec GeForce 3  )

Pftt.. It's Mousepad's Diablo2 Rune Encyclopedia, what are you talking about :dizzy:

Might have been a fluke.. I'm actually afraid of trying it again :|

thats weird....

on closer inspection did you do somthing put your refesh rate to something you monitor doesn't like? mabey the value wasn't too high but the graphic card didn't know what to do what to do while on that refresh rate?

This bug may happen when you overclock your video card...
... or your video card has an hardware problem... but I think it's due to overclocking (or drivers).
Do you have the latest drivers ?

Yes, old drivers could be the problem. Or overheating of the graphics card.

overheating of the video card? Hmmf.. Not to my knowledge, I've ran my graphically demanding games on my laptop..

I thought I had the most recent drivers.. I guess not..

I've gotten this problem on quite a few cards (dating back to my 1mb card from '89). It's almost always because of the drivers, and when a game causes it to happen, it'll remain in windows. Since it's an ATi mobile this can be tricky, you pretty much gotta update the laptops mainboard drivers, agp drivers if they arent included, then install w/e ATi requires you to install for that. Also note, updating these mentioned drivers can cause additional problems or cause your computer not to function at all. This most recently happened on my 9600 XT while using Worldcraft 3.2 in OGL mode, updating the Cat drivers didn't solve the problem. You can also email the issue to ATi, they have the absolute best driver team and have fixed numerous random problems, including fluke problems for applications no one really uses.

no question something is messed up. i ran the game on a substandard GeForce 2 GTS Ultra just for fun and it was fine, about 30fps. updating the drivers is a good step even if it doesn't solve the problem.

If the game ran previously fine, and changing settings caused the problem, it's a certain support issue with one of the graphics settings that is causing the problem, reverting back to old settings should fix it. Bad drivers would be the source of the problem.

Updating (or perhaps reinstalling) Catalyst, DirectX, any preferrably anything else you can, would generally be a good idea.

Whoever said GW was running on a GF2 fine at 30 FPS, you have strange perception. I bet you guessed that FPS when really it was 10 or less. There's no way, even a good quality, later version of a GF2 video card could run GW at 30 FPS properly, even at lowest settings.
I also don't see wha that has to do with the problem we are talking about...

Thats what i call a Graphics Giltch.

EDIT: I'm using my GF2MX for Guild Wars and its fine and dandy with everything on high detail except reflections and shadows and it looks parfact. prolly running at 10-20 FPS i dont really know and prolly about 3fps when i max everything and max all the filters like AA.

OMG I want the matrix-patch to!

And what's a good fps? usually 20 would be pretty low for a game but I played GW at 20-25fps (acording to fraps) on highest settings w/4xAA and the game ran just fine... but in other games that would be pretty low

looks like a video card over heating problem, did you overclock?? or you just have a bad video driver or a defect on your video card ;)
