View Full Version : The Coterie of Relios

Many members of the Coterie have been a part of this community for quite some time. Scyne, Sleeky101, Xavz and myself have been active members of The Guild Hall for quite some time. We enjoy the community and we look to build the community of Guild Wars with a strong internal structure.

Do you want to be part of a guild where you have some say? After passing the initial trial phase, our members have the right to change the guild. Any member of Second Class rank may form a petition, and if his fellow guild members like the idea, then they can sign it. The counsel reviews the petition, then sets it up for the guild to vote. Currently there is a vote to increase the number of counsel members. The counsel approved it, the guild seems to be voting possitivly for the motion. Not everyone can be in a leadership position, but no one should feel like they aren't worth anything to the guild. Every brother of Relios is important from the Refugee to the Commander. We're all friends here who are together for a common purpose, to form a wonderful community for a game called Guild Wars. If you want to be a part of this experience, feel free to stop by and say hello, communicate with the guild members and see if we're right for you.

I've redone the site, well, I am currently in the process of redoing the site: uploading files. Links should all be working, but if you notice something looks funny, it may just be because not everything is uploaded yet.

I would say it is great improvement, and so would MeatMan :)

We're looking for quality members to fill our ranks. I decided at the start of the Guild that I would not accept members that were not a respectable part of the community of Guild Wars. You don't have to be active, you don't have to be famous, you just have to be someone who holds themselves to a higher standard. One who can contribute something to discussions, even if it is an opposing view.

If you feel you fit this criteria, please stop by our forums and just say hello. Meet the members of Relios. Many of them are already here at TGH: Xavz, Scyne, Sleeky 101, Murchad and a few others. We're active in the community of Guild Wars while staying together as friends for this game and hopefully in future endeavors. We want to build our own community that is tightly woven so that we function well as a guild. This is what I have admired about the Guild's I have taken part in the past, and this is what I look forward to creating for all who join and come into contact with the Coterie.

Coterie means a close group of friends, would you like to be a part of the Coterie of Relios?

There has been a recent flood of applications for admission into Relios. We're nearing twenty members from only thirteen not but two weeks ago. With eight applications in two weeks, and five currently accepted, one rejected, one second chance, and one I'm taking a break from reviewing, I would say people are interested. Are you?

Now may be your last chance for a while. When we reach twenty members I plan on closing recruitment for a little "guild bonding" time. With the flood of new members, it's hard to get to know them all as more keep applying almost daily. The closed period will be at minimum one week and at maximum one month. Apply now, before we reach the cap of twenty, if you would like to take part in a well run, active and well liked guild.

Alright, Cicciro wanted me to inform everyone that our restricted application phase will soon be over, so go ahead and apply if you want it. We're having loads of fun, don't miss out.

Are you guys still accpeting alliances? I went to your forums, looking for a place where I could post questions on this topic, but found none. The reason I'm asking is beacuase awhile back, Cicciro confirmed an alliance between our guilds (The Serpentine Brotherhood). I'm just wondering if this is still the case. Sorry for having to post this here :P .

If you want to discuss a friendship between our guilds, please just do so on our forums. They are private matters :)

You could post it on any forum and I could just move it (if i even cared to move it), or you could post it in one of the following forums:

These are the two forums for either questions or guild discussion.

In light of this new recruitment for testing, Relios is going to have a low recruit rate for a while. We're still recruiting, but we will cap it at a defined number of members per week, at least for a while.

I want people to know we're still recruiting, come check us out!

I just wanted to say i applied for the Coterie of Relios, and it seems impossible to get in if you catch the leader at a bad time or your not the greatest writer. Ive read a few of the posts there from people who got turned down, and all of them had Cerccio say he was in a bad mood, and I was wondering why its so strict to get into a Guild thats about having fun. Its a game about people building a community, not about how well you can write an application. All in all I think you people should lighten up and have some fun, rather than sitting in a dark corner of your room reading forums.

They wish for a "TIGHT KNIT" group of friends, and to achieve this they NEED to be a bit strict. Also im sure its you whos not having fun. :P

No, its not fun getting turned down when applying for a guild, but when the game comes around, yes I will be having fun :D

Hmm, I don't know how to respond to this.

If you look through the applications you would have noticed a different trend as well. We do take those who write stellar applications, but for a reason. I personally enjoy reading something that is well written, especially as an application.

Here are some reasons:

A well written application often shows the conduct of the character. If you have a guy running around writing broken sentences or in elite speak, you find a guy who often doesn't have it together on a maturity level. I'm not saying this is your case, but just some.

Another point to this is the dreaded first impression. No matter how much you want people to take them time and look at character, most people just aren't like that. The first impression is key. If you walked into a job interview dressed as Dee Snyder for a possition over at the Super Big Business Firm, they would just laugh at you. Maybe they would take you if you applied at McDonalds.

I've given you a second chance to apply in a few weeks.

Another thing to note are the different types of communities prevelant in our own society. We have the sports communities, the drug communities, the PTA, the elderly homes, ect.

These are all different communities with different standards. To be honest, it isn't hard to get into Relios. Put a little effort into what you are saying, maybe even type it out in Microsoft Word, but please don't bash a guild on their recruitment policies, it doesn't necessarily make them want to have you re-apply.

I myself am an advocate for roleplaying in games. Recently Friax and I roleplayed through a little of the Neverwinter Nights original campaign. I've ran roleplaying guilds in the past, and was heavily active in a roleplaying community for shadowbane (the old boards before ubi took them over).

I cannot say for Relios as to whether we will be constantly roleplaying, however I can say I will encourage it. A recent poster in the 'Looking for a guild' thread sparked some thinking on my part. Why not have a few times where we roleplay through the story of Guild Wars? I would find this to be a really fun experience.

On the otherside, when it comes to PvP that is this fast paced, it would eliminate voicechat and third party programs and force you to type rather drawn out without the use of abbreviations. This would kill, unless we roleplayed some silent force.

So, I will leave it neutral. I am in no way against it, but I cannot logically see it working for PvP. For PvE on the other hand, I see it as a God send. These sorts of things I leave up to the member's preference.

I agree with our guild leaders remarks concerning applications. I am one of the newest members so I don't have a lot of crediblity to say things but I still wish to express my opinion. I don't wish to offend anyone but if it happens so be it.

I think looking through applications in order to discern the level of maturity in a person's writing is a great way to filter people. What i have noticed in this guild so far is that everyone seems to communicate very well and on a higher than the norm level. Maybe tight knit is one way you can express the need for a certain group of people but you have to consider certain aspects. Our guild leader is currently attending college and is leading a productive life. So obviously he wants others that are on that level. I think overall this guild will be on a higher age bracket than others. It will also have its exceptions of people that are young but are mature for their ages.

Just by breaking down how a person writes in a application or on forums can tell you much of that person. Its just linking psychology to how people express themselves and what it represents when read into a bit deeper. I can see that our guild leader so far has done a great job in that respect because just by reading our forums you get all kinds of personalities younger and older but all at a certain standard of maturity and refinement.

I think just by reading our forums is enough to convince anyone that our guild members will take alpha testing quite serious. I have tested many games and have been playing them since I was 5 yrs of age. I am currently studying at university in order to pursue a career in making games so this is definately something I will be taking seriously and a topic I will promote amongst my guild members. I am sure our guild leader will emphatically promote this as well "take testing seriously, this games success depends on it, our enjoyment of this game after release depends on it." But this of course doesn't mean we can't have fun =D.

If you really wanna get to Cicciro, write an entire application in leet speak. Honestly, from what I've seen, Cicciro accepts more people than he rejects. Most of the time if he's only slightly unhappy with the way the application is written, he asks for a revision. He has given everyone he rejects a second chance at a later date. He isn't making a character judgement based on your writing, he just wants the level of written communication to be higher than what is common on the internet.

Fluidfox
09-17-2004, 02:02 AM
Not really all that much to ask when you think about it. Though you would be surprised how many people aren't in our guild because they refuse to, or are unable to, write a single paragraph in semi-proper english. I do have to agree that quality of expression through the written word is a good benchmark of a person's maturity. It isn't the be all and end all of the matter, but it is a good first indicator.

I think the application strategy has worked out beautifully actually. Every person who is in the guild is someone that I would be glad to sit down and have an intelligent conversation with. The key word there being... you guessed it, Intelligent. I hope that standard is maintained once the game goes gold and we are recruiting people we meet in-game.

Hello, I would like to assist you in the process.

Here are a list of steps that you must go through to apply for this guild.

1. Head over to our website: http://www.freewebs.com/relios

2. Enter our forums and register there.

3. Post an application while following the criteria posted in a sticky at the top of the board.

4. Patience: I have a life too, so it may take a day or two to get the application reviewed and responded to.

5. Accepted/Declined

It really is exciting to think that we will all be playing it again after all this time. Was it really only 5 months? When I think of how much fun I had and how much more there will be to explore this time... It really does make one shiver. I can't wait to see how it has been refined in practice from the earlier verson... I also can't wait to actually get the guild together and playing. And since most all of you have pre-ordered, we can repeat this just a week after the WPE, and the first of every month thereafter. It's going to be an exciting time.

You can tell things are really kicking into high gear. I just pulled a 69.1 meg download on the client. The biggest I ever got in one whack leading up to E3 was 38 or so. That is, after the initial download of the client when it had to download all the core stuff. This can only be a good thing.

Well... seems we're all just kinda crawling out of hour skins here. I was really excited about E3, but it isn't a patch on what I'm dealing with now. Sad as it is, I actually had a Gw related dream last night. That isn't all that odd... what was odd was that I am so hung up on this game that I dreamed about browsing TGH and looking for inspiration for a build... Decided on a specific setup... then proceeded to test that build and take notes. It was only when I woke up that I understood that any information I had obtained was probably not all that accurate since I was just dreaming it... I thought 7 seconds was a bit too short for a signet to recharge.....
