View Full Version : Thinking of starting a GvG guild - need help/advice/tips.

Well, I can say I'm pretty experienced in GuildWars. 12 months, with GvG, HoH, and PvE experience.

However, one thing I have never actually gotten around to doing, is to make my own guild. I've joined some decent guilds, and done my thing, however, there is one big problem. No one ever plays during my Time Zone (GMT+9.)

Another "big" (some might agree...) problem I find, is that many "GvG Geared" guilds eventually turn into HoH/fame farming guilds... which I'm not exactly a big fan of.

Therefore, for the first time, I am thinking about creating my own guild.

As stated, one/some of the biggest problems I face are finding people who play in my time zone (GMT+9) and like to play GvG.

I don't really want to start spamming LA, or HA for recruitment, because I don't have that much time to actually do that ... ( and the people you pick up are probably sub-par anyway.)

Finally, guild management. I have no idea how and when to promote people to officers. I don't want the guild to become a PvE geared guild... so well yeah... I don't want to blindly just make people officers, and have the guild roster filled up the next day :/

Anyway in a nutshell, what tips/advice I'm looking for:
- How to find people who are in my Timezone.
- How to find people interested in GvG
- How to choose when to promote people to Officers.
- How to make sure people stay in the guild, and won't leave the next day because the rosters not full/we havn't gotten enough people to GvG.
- How to manage the guild.
- How to pick good/decent people. *I don't exactly want to be dealing with total newbies/n00bs.*

- How to find people who are in my Timezone.

Generally, ask people what timezone they are in, and if you recruit ingame, only recruit when your normally on. That should limit most problems.

- How to find people interested in GvG

Forums

- How to choose when to promote people to Officers.

probably your 1st 2 members, then monitor them closely. then wait and see who seems mature, responsable and selfless enough.

- How to make sure people stay in the guild, and won't leave the next day because the rosters not full/we havn't gotten enough people to GvG.

Find people interested in helpnig start up a guild. If people are looking to join an established guild, and you join them with just 4 people, obviously that won't work. you need to find people interested in being in the guild "from the beginning".

- How to manage the guild.

Every guild manages itself differently. The *best*, however, I feel have a chain of command (members, officer, leader), but treat all members equally (not even mentioning captins exist)

- How to pick good/decent people. *I don't exactly want to be dealing with total newbies/n00bs.*
Again, look for people who look like they're willing to put in the effort, ask them what experience they have, etc.

Starting a guild from scratch is really tough. I helped created Brr at the end of season 1. It's definitely a lot easier to start with a couple of friends you trust playing with or are comfortable playing with. We started out with 3 guys who were ex-members of another guild, just at different times. Next we created a forum where people could submit applications to join the guild. It makes recruiting a lot more organized and allows you to pick and choose who you want to try out. After we got the forum up there's several mainstream GW sites that offer guild recruitment threads. We chose www.team-iq.net and this site. In these posts you can advertise what you want and what you hope to accomplish with the guild. We also set a certain time for GvG and required all to have mics and vent. After this it took about a month to a month in a half to fill our roster to about 10-12. Many of our recruits came through friends of friends or friends of other recruits. It also helped that some of the founders had been in top 100 guilds before and had experience, as good players are looking to GvG with people at their level. The best thing is that you emphasize patience as a new guild doesn't excel right off the bat. Chemistry of the players can make up for skill at times so the most skilled players aren't always necessary or best to recruit. Good luck though, it definitely takes time and patience and goals shared by each of the players.
