Given that there has been a large amount of growth here at TGH, we feel that some of our more experienced members should be promoted to the title of Senior Member in order to acknowledge their contributions to the Guild Wars community here at TGH. This title will let the newer members know that the infomation provided by these Senior Members is reliable, and that they can feel comfortable going to them for assistance.
We will be adding members to this usergroup from time to time based on a couple different aspects: mainly for going out of their way to consistently help others here at the forums, and/or for members who have been at TGH for a good while (at least 4 months). This isn't something that people apply or ask for. It's just something that we will be giving at our own discretion to reward those members that have made significant contributions and have been here for a long while.
Members that already have an "Alpha Tester" title can qualify and be promoted to the Senior Member group, but for the remainder of the GW closed alpha/beta, the Alpha Tester title and color will be what shows on his/her posts.
Over the next few days, we'll be giving out the title to those who we know are currently deserving, and forum members can nominate someone who he/she feels deserves it but hasnt yet received it but please wait a few days for things to settle before sending in nominations. If you would like to post feedback on this, feel free to PM myself or another staff member anytime.

Toxic Boy has been added to the Senior Member group. He's been a long time member of TGH dating all the way back to the old forums. Congrats!
Edit to add: we'll be announcing new senior members here in the future to give them some recognition.

Not exactly. If you read the second paragraph, you'll see more information for the requirements. Really, it boils down to the members that have been around for awhile and help out a lot.

Feedback: it's a smashing idea but there needs to be some way new registrants are made aware of the fact that there are senior members in the forums, and all the hooplah which that entails (i.e. infomation provided by these Senior Members is reliable etc etc). One might simply misinterpret the "Senior Member" tag as pointing out someone who spams a lot (like many other forums change tags based on increasing postcounts).

Its really just a subjective decision of the staff. Other sites give special titles based on number of posts but ours are based mostly on how long the person's been a member and how much they add to the community, whether it be comics in AJ's case or a crazy but likable personality like BBB.

No specific dates. People will PM about someone they think would be a good candidate or one of the staff notices someone going out of their way to be helpful.

Given that there has been a large amount of growth here at TGH,
I'm not one for badges, but I did want to commend TGH...
I move here from another fansite, (that will remain nameless) and now TGH is my home. I left due to spyware/adware type banners or just general "Hard on the eyes" formats. I think more and more will flock to TGH due to some of the very reasons I did. I just hope you are ready for the increase in bandwidth. There has been several great ideas and helps that I have picked up as I browse, and I am grateful. I've also learned how to use the search tool! :)
Yeah, I know that sounds like a lips to behind type statement, but that is not the way it was intended.

I also see alot of posts from Virgil those, however have always provided insight to me as a new player.Don't worry. Virgil is an easy candidate for being a senior member, hands down. He's got a good head on his shoulders, keeps his cool, and is helpful. Eventually that day will come.

I'm sorry if I sound like a wet towel (what does a wet towel sound like, anyways?), but it's weird how the Senior Member list is huge all of a sudden. Maybe it's just me, and if it is then I'll shut up, but I always thought that the Senior Members would be a smaller group of people. I know that no one ever said anything about the size of the group, but to me it feels like the Senior Member tag has lost a lot of it's...erm...signifigance. Maybe this would have been better if it was a PM, and if so then I'm sorry, but I've been wanting to say something about it for a little while.
Anyways, gratz to the new guys.

TheRealDecoy, I understand your feeling. There are a lot more senior members now. You have to realize that the senior member group is only growing along with the size of the community. When you became a senior member, I expect that the community was quite small. Now, there are over 8000 members, and (although many are very infrequent) they need a lot of guidence.
A hearty congrats to the newest senior members. All long time contributers.

Its not about the amount of Sen Members, its about the quality of them. I could care less if half of the members were Sen Members, as long as they are reliable and provide good quality information or whatnot.
Grats to the new guys!
I agree, it doesn't matter how many there are. The number is bound to grow since there's no way to lose Seniority (that I know of). But that's fine. As long as the Senior members are worthy of the title. I seem to recall a couple of times a newbie was astonished at the behavior of a Senior Member... there's a bit of responsibility with the title. Some folks don't seem to care, and that's sad.
It's only a title, but it says a lot. It gets you a certain amount of trust, and people think it's a sign of credibility. If everyone with a bright yellow name is worthy of that trust, then I wouldn't mind if everyone was a Senior Member.
Grats again to the new Seniors! Hope you guys stick around for another 10 months! ... and more! :D

So I'm in Agony Vent, minding my own business, when Narc yells at me to join the Agony group on TGH, admitting that it's going to remove my Senior Member label.
"Since when was I a Senior Member?" I ask Narc politely.
"Since you started rocking so damn hard which has been for, like, forever," Narc replies.
"Hot steel ingots!" I exclaim.
Belatedly, thanks for the status label (although I haven't exactly been active as of late).

Congratulations to you new senior members... I hear if you disrespect the title that the ghost of Meatman (which is actually a spectral clone of him) comes and haunts you for 10 fort-nights. He breaks alot of lamps, so be warned.
Off-Topic: Agony Vent is more entertaining then stand-up comedy.

I wouldn't call it a status symbol, taking into account the varity of members who have the tag. Its like if i say "Jump off that building, trust me you wont die" you would believe me more than if... oXy said to you the exact same thing.

Well, to me it IS a status symbol. You've earned the tag and people know ( except new people like me, haha ) that they can trust you more than the normal users. Really, that is a status symbol to me.
But enough of that, we don't want to change this into a yes .. no .. yes .. no topic, do we? haha :D

I think most members that have achieved senior status have shown themselves to be able to express themselves in this manner. I don't know how the staff actually selects members, but one thing I noticed is that some seniors can still be rude, sarcastic, and evil... but at least they do it with a flair! :D

The short answer on becoming a Senior Member:
We select members who we feel contribute to the community in some way. Some produce fan-art, some help newbs, and some are just good to discuss things with. It's pretty subjective and varies person from person.

Hey Jerez make a group membership for Vanguard Reborn, your not even in agony anymore lol.
Just because you're at a place for a while doesn't really mean they know more then the next person that comes to TGH.
Just my $0.02.
I've alpha, beta and weekly tested, I don't see any fancy titles for me... oh well.

it shows that it is possible for you to care less, you wouldn't have posted if you didn't care at all.
I just think it's stupid.
I made a comment and I think it's sort of foolish to say "just because you have a senior title means you're experienced..." blah blah blah bull**** to me.

Stop bickering. This thread is about naming/congratulating senior members, not about discussing criteria (of which there is no defined, as you can clearly see, many members have been here over 4 months and are not senior members).

Well, that is a rather old post. I think few people see a senior member and think "wow, he must be the greatest player in the world" while they see someone simply a member and think "that person must be such a n00b." It's just a little added distinction for someone who's been around awhile and also contributed something.
And of course it's playing favourites. If you're around for 2 yrs but rarely post or you do often enough but nothing that contributes beyond off topic, you're not going to get a senior member title. If the reason you're not a senior member is because you're not liked, there's probably a big reason. I doubt I'd ever see senior member under my name because I make no attempt at really contributing to this community. I post helpful stuff occasionally but I prefer playing the devil's advocate when I post. However, I also realize I don't take this game or this forum serously enough to care. I have no problem with the system since it's up to the owners to choose and this one works fairly well. I've been in the "1337" club in older forums I no longer go to where it really was a popularity contest since there was no basis for determining helpful people. All I ever found it to do is force me to be friends with people I don't like which is why I don't go to them anymore.

We will be adding members to this usergroup from time to time based on a couple different aspects: mainly for going out of their way to consistently help others here at the forums, and/or for members who have been at TGH for a good while (at least 4 months).
