Did anyone every succesfully kill the charr in the northern lands? I tried several times but to no avail. I even grouped with a lv.20(how he got there I don't know) and we still got owned by the charr. There's a collector there wanting charr skins or tablets...something, but how are you supposed to get them if you can't kill the charr?

I didnt even see any charr, dang I only explored the southern side of Ascalon (woops!). I guess if you level up enouph and team up with a ton of guys the Charr would be killable.

right out of the gates if you followed the road west there was a gate. You had to have a group member(yes you have to be grouped) go around and on top of the gate to hit a switch, then you walk through.

Yep, get killed here also... The small group next to the northern lake and the other one patrolling the ruins might be ok but the huge one around the Fire Altar... I don't know.
On the other hand, if we were able to beat them, there would be a problem with the Searing, because that's this huge group that makes it.

I hit that switch many times and nothing happened, I just assumed it was an unfinished addition or bug....dang it! Would've been cool to see the Charr coup rising. :boggled:

I've been there.

I've seen the Charr.

I even killed a few of the Charr with another ranger, although he was also an elementalist.

They were TOUGH and we both eventually got our rear ends handed to us.

Is it just me or did I miss the Pre-Searing Ascalon? I enter the Feb BWE like everyone else did over the weekend, and I still see the same desolation in Ascalon. No clear blue skys, beautiful landscape with lush green meadows and tall forests. Nothing. Do I have to do something even though it is too late now.

You had to create a new level 1 character.

I poked around for a bit in the north but it was very hard once I pissed off the Charr since only a lvl 1 was willing to help me open the gate. I tried different districts but everywhere I went they either ignored me or said no.

At least I found the spot where they took one of the wallpaper screenshots. (the one with a river, some collumns, and ruins in the back)

I had the same problem. So I only got to try a few times.

My boyfriend had found the gate switch when he was playing alone and when I joined him in-game he told me to wait at the bottom of the gate and run through to see if anything was there. Low and behold, he hit the switch on the top, the gate opened, and I went through, which brought us to the northern lands. We explored as much as possible, trying to by-pass the charr, and I got a few pictures of that beautiful area, as well as the lizzards there. :) Eventually though, we wandered too close to a group of charr, and although they were supposedly only level 7s, and my boyfriend and I were level 8 and seven respectively, we had our asses handed to us in a matter of seconds. We did manage a picture of the statue things the charr were surrounding though... anyone know why they are so importaint?

I know it's a little late for this, but I found that once you pull the lever, you can walk right through the door. I was by myself and pulled the lever to see if it would open and it did. When I walked back down the steps, it was closed, but I could walk right through it.

Am I the only person that went to the Northlands only? I just walked through the doors...GHOST STYLE! hah

EDIT: Bah guess not, lol

Lol, I never thought of that, aw well. Oh and was that tower like a flaming tower, because then I think its one of those flame tower things that they use for elemental energy or whatever.

hmm, ghosting through the door huh...I guess they forgot to reset the collision with the door. The doors in Post_searing Ascalon(to the explorable area aka Old Ascalon) used to have no collision so you could bypass the warp and...well just stay out there. Anyways, I think, if they upped the number of people you could group with(maybe 3?) then I(we) could kill the charr if we had the right classes.

I'd be intrested to know what would happen with the searing if you actually managed to kill all the charr in the northlands, since the ones around the alter are what are shown as causing the searing. Most likely nothing would change, since the charr would just respawn when you zone out of the area. Still an interesting prospect I think. I wouldn't doubt if you'd get some pretty good drops from them as well, seeing as there are 3 (4?) boss type charr out there and they're the only 3 boss type monsters in pre-searing Ascalon that I saw.

I was able to kill those char but for only one reason. A lv20 was able to somehow bug his way into New Ascaleon. So a lv20+mylv8 didn't have too many problems(unless you count dying 10 times). With the BIG char group(lv7 ele boss included).
hate the invisable walls there. We would take 4 tried killing a charr group, only to find that the next area that It looked like you could travel to was blocked by an invisable wall.

Those charr in that area are beefed enourmously. Especially the bosses. They kill you in a second.

I found one other Named enemy, in was in the greenhill(?), you know, near the barradin estate. Anyways, it was an Etti type and he was just walking along, I don't know why he was there because I never saw him before or ever again. I was hoping the river drake would drop something good, but never got that to happen.

Here's a question that roughly deals with the northern lands. In most of the Pre-seraring ascalon areas there are monk's next to...rez shrines. Well, there's one in the northern lands but when you die you don't get rezzed. It made me think it'd be okay if I died, but no, it set up up for a downfall.

I tried 3 or 4 times with different partners I am a level 8 R/El and I even teamed up twice with other level 8's and we got are ass kicked evertime.
Could not lure them out. Could not pick them off 2 on 1. If two level 8 characters cannot do it then I feel in Pre-Ascalon there may be no way to.

Those who said they hooked up with Level 20 characters which doesn't make sence were dam lucky!

Did it,took us 4hrs @ lvl8 to wipe them all out did @ lvl 10 on 30mns.Bait and run works best, especially if you can get them to the res point.

I think this thread was made during one of those beta sessions when the monsters were increased in difficulty. So I think it's probably a bit easier to beat those Charr you're referring to now in the retail version. It also helps to know some of the glitches in the AI as well as a strategy to tackle a pack of 4-6 of them. Especially when there's 2 Hunters to deal with, they hurt like hell.

Still, it's a feeling of accomplishment for some when you do wipe them out, so congrats. :)

So what happens when you kill them all? Nothing? It's just another group to kill?

Correctamundo. You just get to pat yourself on the back.

I didn't bother to count them all, but I read somewhere that there's roughly 50 of them throughout the area. I've gone up to 10 platinum trading some of the drops I've found there. But I think I'm ready to move on to New Ascalon now.

Yea,the BWE charr did seem harder we did it then too though(don't ask how long it took, lol),and the chests actually had good items in them @ that time, for release nothing was in the chests. The release Charr didn't like to break off from their groups though so it was harder in that respect.

That's cool, Jiggs. I also used the monk in the rez shrine, at least when I've got a whole pack of them chasing me. I have to make sure to keep her healed though. Even though she has "mucho" life for a level 5 academy monk, she can still die from a large pack of Charr if not careful.

Sometimes the Shamans and Chaots do break off from the groups when baiting a pack, it's all luck of the draw I guess.

I am not even sure how you get to the side of Ascalon city althought it would be interesting to do as I still have a char. in pre searing and post.I wasn't ready to go into post but some 11 year old took me there.I wanted to build up my level some more.

I also went to the other side of the norhern wall in the tutorial (for the quest when you need to contact a guy to go to the other side). went there with a warrior guy to open the doors and ofcourse as we were curious, we descoverd the area some more and saw the mass charrs to. and yup, we got owned bad to, we tryed a few times ...

if you can bait them to the res point, there is a Monk NPC there that is a GOD healer. That is how you can beat them rather easily.

The monk helps enormosuly because then you can focus on 2 power dmg'ers, not a dmg + heal or w/e.

You can actually pull it off rather easily with the NPC monk.

I even grouped with a lv.20(how he got there I don't know)

When I was on last night someone began advertising a glitch that allowed level 6+ to achieve level 20 in a matter of minutes. He sent it a couple times in Foible's Fair (I wish I could remember the name). He of course got slammed by several people as a cheat and a loser (one of those people being me). I have no idea if it is an actual glitch or not but you can bet I'm getting screenshots to send to ANet if I see a message like that again.

I'm presently lev 10 Warrior/Ranger and i've done the Char north of the wall lots of times. Usually with a Ranger/Warrior, Mesmer/monk or Warrior/Monk Lev 8 or higher with me. Its long tidious work, you go for the shamans first, hopefully kill 1 or 2 before both of you and pet dies.

Most mobs are in 4's with some in 5's. It takes a while. It took me when i was lev 8 about 5-6hrs to defeat the altar. Had 4 salvage kits on me..used em all up.
When I got to lev 9, it took about 3-4hrs. Now at lev 10, did it yesterday took about 1hr to kill all the plebs around the altar, leaving 5 guys left. Had to go then RL intervened (very unhappy). So With 2 guys lev 9+, with the right tactics, its possible to do it in 1.hrs.

How the heck do you have them follow you to the shrine. Everytime I tried they killed us, or they just ran back to there positions? It certainly would cut down on lots of time. I usually die twice per group of 5. Which is about 10-15 deaths to do the entire lot.

Also I would like to say "Kudo's to Jiggs". Fine proformance.
Old Jaw and red-eye nearly always drop purple. I usually walk out with about 5-8 purples per cleansing.
