I'll apologize in advance for the lack of real plot here. It's basically just a character sketch... with words. Hope you don't find it too boring. I skipped right into the middle of the story instead of starting when Li and Seb met, because I actually want THAT story to be good! :| Comments are welcome.
Lihana woke reluctantly. It had been so long since she had been able to sleep. At least.... it seemed like so long. As she opened her eyes, the vibrant colors of the home she remembered faded away to black.
Everything was black again.
Something heavy but gentle rested against her breasts, and she slowly lifted her hand to find out what it was. The huge cat stirred, licking Lihana's small hand with its sandpaper tongue as if to say "It's only me, don't be frightened."
She smiled and scratched behind the velvety ears as the stalker rose from her side and sauntered away.
"You sleep too much."
The stern voice startled her, but she quickly calmed her nerves and smiled uncertainly.
"Seb, oh... you scared me! You shouldn't startle a girl when she first wakes up. I can't see you yet." Lihana laughed quietly and turned her head in the direction of his voice.
----
Sebastian continued to stare at her. It was times like this... mornings like this... that he was glad she was blind. His neck ached from the upright position he'd kept all night. She had looked so beautiful in the firelight, so peaceful... and so frail.
How would he ever manage to sleep knowing that there were terrible creatures lurking... enemies at every turn... and Lihana had chosen a life of protecting others instead of herself. As much as he wished he could turn his back on her, he never managed to succeed. The very thought of anything harming her set his blood coursing with anger...
"Seb? You seem uneasy. Is something wrong?" She fumbled for her wand, grasping only dirt.
"No. Nothing is wrong."
Out of the stillness of the early morning came a sharp cracking, and the sound of a cat's howl. Sebastian lunged up and out of the makeshift shelter, hand already drawing his sword out of its sheath.
----
Lihana's heart jumped in her chest and she saw her wand illuminated in the darkness of her mind. She followed after the faint colors of pain and anger, tripping over rocks and rubble and smacking her head on the roof of the little shack.
She skidded to a stop near Sebastian, hearing the cat's painful screams and the cracking of bones. Something was there... a lot of somethings were there... and Lihana's calm lavendar eyes burned with pain.
Gathering her wits about her, she focused her energy on the stalker who seemed to be the focus of most of the enemy's attack. She cried out a prayer to Dwayna, and the colors of pain subsided in her mind. With not a moment to spare, she looked to Sebastian.
----
It never ceased to amaze him... the expression on her face. Her beautiful eyes looked to him as if she could see into his very soul. She knew precisely where he was, and although he couldn't hear her above the clash of sword against axe, he could just barely make out the motion of her lips. She would grow pale, and his wounds would disappear.
Lihana would seem to dance carefully around the small group of Charr, her eyes never leaving his. She would make her way to wherever she could "see" him best, and then he would feel her energy cast into him. Blessings from Dwayna... healing energy... Sebastian continued to fight with all his body's strength and Lihana kept his strength up. It seemed that with her nearby, he would never tire.
Somehow fate had thrown them together.
----
Exhausted, Li closed her eyes for only a moment and shook her head. No time to rest... where is it? Her hands reached out, and she felt the energy she needed. With a deep breath, she pulled it toward her. The Charr began to fall faster as their healer gasped for breath. Sebastian took the opportunity to drive his sword through the beast's heart.
One by one, the colors of pain and danger began to fade. Her world became darker as each Charr fell under Sebastian's sword. She continued to pray, calling upon Dwayna to provide the warrior all her protection. Soon... only two lights remained.
The color of anger, and the color of pure glee.
One moved to her, and Lihana stepped back a bit. Uncertainly, she reached her hand out. The cat stood up on his hind legs and rubbed its head against her outstretched palm as she sighed with relief.
"Thank Dwayna you're both alright. Seb? Are you hurt?" She stepped toward him, his emotion clearly outlined against the blackness and his breathing harsh.
Her foot slipped in the collecting pool of blood and Li went face-first into the pile of Charr carcasses.
Sebastian tried to hold back the laugh as her face twisted and she let out a little cry. She tried to pull herself upright, but she seemed to get more and more tangled and bloody. She looked up, but she could no longer see him.
"I am so glad to have amused you," Lihana sighed, struggling and finally falling out of the corpses and onto the hard ground.
Strong hands gripped her arms and lifted her up. She lowered her head, wishing she had bruised more than her pride so that Sebastian would worry instead of laugh silently at her.
"You're going to smell awful now. Come on, we have to be moving. More will come after these beasts." He let go of her and began walking.
As faithfully as always, Sebastian's cat nudged her along with its head... staying close to her and guiding her after the warrior.
