Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
If Anet really gave them the exclusive and wanted to promote the magazine, there would be a little news thing on the guild wars frontpage saying something like "Check out Girls of Gaming, in stores now, for the first released information on Chapter 2"

Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
how long did it take them to announce the 1up article?
(article written on the 3rd, news item the 10th, anet does a good job on keeping up to date with that stuff [/sarcasm])

Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
I'm not going to take sides on this on whether this is fake or not, but for those of you saying that there's NO way that an exclusive would be for an obscure magazine, well you're wrong.
I've worked at a couple of gaming companies (THQ and Interplay (R.I.P.)) and they often gave exclusive peeks and info to magazines because of deals made or if there's some sort of advantage to either the magazine or the game company.
Just because it's not on the official site doesnt mean it's a fake. However...I'm skeptical about this as well.

Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
With the scans, I have no reason to believe that this isn't genuine.
First off - it is the publishers who are in charge of publicity, and they do not always no what they're doing. Case in point is Neverwinter Nights 2, the sequel to a hit game that broke tons of records and broke new ground in the RPG genre. You'd expect the first screenshots to appear in a media blitz, right?
They actually appeared on the Back page of the printed manual for a game nobody even bought.
It may seem like bad marketing and a stupid way of doing things, but you have to remember that this sort of information is released to a lot of different people, all with their own agendas and schedules. It is unlikely the people releasing the information particularly know which magazine or article they released will be published first.
That said, I would expect a few articles in more reliable sources and detailed information in the near future. If this information was released to the adult magazine internally, it was probably released to others, and their articles simply have yet to see the light of day.
As far as the class itself, there really isn't any information here, but I'll be interested to see how they plan to implement it. A class based around striking before the opponent knows you're there is inherently tough to manage from a gameplay perspective because it isn't any fun to be ganked by an invisible opponent with no chance to react.
On the other hand, sniper rifles remain common in FPS games, and they work off the exact same mechanic. I like to think Arenanet will avoid that style of gameplay, but in truth that remains to be seen.

Hmmm, wonder if she can dance. Cause if she can I have a very funky Ele who has this great ankle grab move and everything. They would rule the dance floor.

Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
Remember in the early BWEs, the primary class skill for Rangers was Stealth, not Expertise. While they never added any skills which used Stealth for Rangers, Assassin does make sense in that Stealth would likely be its primary attribute now that they have had more time to figure out how to get it to work.

Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
I am indifferent on the validity of this article. Plenty of reasons in this thread show that it could be true or false.
But, I do think an Assassin would be pretty cool. =0

Also the lore seemed to be making a reference to Cantha (talking about traders and such), so if this article is true, then that means cantha might very well be playable in the next chapter.

The frog stated pretty clearly that the story of the new chapter would involve moving to the west, though.

Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
i dunno.. if this whole deal is a lie.. Anet should already be announcing over at the main site that this is horse**** and that they will soon be filing a lawsuit or something to dispell the rumors. but they havent done anything yet, have they? although skeptical still, im forced to believe that this is genuine info *shrug*

Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
Yep, that's our girl.
Play Magazine is a great publication. We love the coverage that they've given Guild Wars. They loved the game so much, early on, that they expanded and extended one of their previews over two issues.
We were happy to have them premiere the concept art (which I happen to think is absolutely lovely) and the lore and other info present in this issue. I don't have a copy in my mitts yet, but I'm eager to see it!

PLAY does rule. No better place to start than that. I can't wait to see it all.

Lol, I'll be the first to admit I thought it was a complete troll. Of course, the spelling in the copied-out post before the scanned pictures showed up didn't help.

Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
I was expecting some crazy monk-mesmer-warrior or some type of ninja thing. I'm glad (although I almost knew for sure) that they are having dual wielding to 1 profession (I'm still assuming they can dual wield though, the lore mentions many occasions where characters do stuff you can't do in Guild Wars)
I wonder what the male models will be like.

Thank you Gaile, now we can put our doubts aside.
EDIT: This needs to be put in the front page NOW.

Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
As long as stealth doesn't become the ultimate ganking attribute, and they keep them out of ninja clothes, this could be quite cool.

Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
I'm assuming they might make it a dodge tank like RO or NWN...
I'm also assuming that they're main weapon would be claws...

Re: First new class information from Chapter 2: the Assassin
I was going to post that the Girls of Gaming is put out from play magazine, which is an awesome gaming mag. but Gaile has confirmed it so no need to say that anymore.
But i WILL say i find it odd that earlier this year in one of Play's magazines, the letter from the editor was basically a rant on magazines getting exclusive content, or games only going to magazines if the magazine will give them exclusive content. ironic hu?
nevertheless, play is awesome. check it out in most bookstore's. even some grocery stores and walmart type places carry it. not at all like all the rest of the gaming magazines. seriously, get it!
